Dare to say YES
Your body's wisdom is the only guide you need
Hi There,
This morning I taught an early morning yoga class and, as I usually do, I spent last night and this morning, thinking about the class. What should I teach? What is this class about? What do the students need? What would be interesting and fun to teach? I always ask myself these questions and then create a plan or a sequence to follow during class.
A plan makes me feel safe and secure. It creates structure and relieves me of the pressure to respond in the moment.
But this morning, I decided to try something different and to work at my edge.
I decided to skip creating a plan and to instead teach intuitively - to just feel into what naturally wants to come next.
This felt both scary and exhilarating.
For whatever reason, I wanted this experience today. I didn’t want to play it safe or do what I’ve always done. I wanted to experience being fully present and to trust myself.
I didn’t want to miss anything. I didn’t want to miss a vibration in the room or an intuitive hit that this is what needs to be said or moved or breathed. I wanted to follow my heart and body’s wisdom.
But, on my way out the door I questioned my enoughness and grabbed a notebook of sequences off the shelf to have by my mat, just in case.
However, even though I set the notebook next to my mat, I didn’t look at it once. Instead, I closed my eyes and let inspiration guide me. I taught from presence and from trust. And it felt AMAZING. And super energizing….and freeing….and just right.
How often do we have an impulse to do something and then question our enoughness?
How often do we want to break free from the plan and trust that we’ve got this?
How often are we relying on structure instead of our body’s wisdom?
ALL.THE.TIME.
We are taught to abandon our intuition at a very young age and to instead follow a plan and script to ensure comfort and acceptance. In the process though we loose track of who we are and we loose trust within ourselves.
Then hopefully we discover practices, like yoga and meditation, that encourage tuning into our body’s wisdom and trusting the impulses we find there. This process is scary and exhilarating. Uncomfortable and liberating. And the only path home to ourselves.
If you are wanting to feel more connected to yourself, more trusting of your enoughness and more alive in your life….then I encourage you to play with following your intuition.
This week dare to say yes to your body’s wisdom…
Choose one area of your life where you often rely on a plan and follow your intuition instead. Maybe you….
Move intuitively on your mat
Eat intuitively
Let go of your to-do list and do what you are inspired to do
Go the grocery store and shop from a place of presence and trust with what your body wants for nourishment.
Follow your intuition. Write your own script. Do what feels right. Trust yourself.
Let me know what you discover in the process!
Thinking of you and sending you so much love,
Amanda
